Ascension gives high-tier players something to continually work towards through gear enhancements. Ascension levels either add +2dmg/+2% magical effect (weapon) or +2def/+2% magical effect (armor) or +2% magical effect only (artifact). For this reason, artifacts should be considered last for ascension.
Once an item has been ascended, the ascension becomes permanent, unlike gems. It is strongly advised not to meld or sell ascended gear as this permanently throws away all ascended levels on it. Ascended gear may be re-enchanted without removing the ascension and gems may be attached and removed like normal. Ascending a legendary piece automatically makes the piece become Unreal with a new cosmetic skin. Cosmetic effects like flames and such will remain on items which are already Unreal, but no new visual effects will be added to legendary items other than the skin change.
It cost 10,000 for Ascending to level 1. The cost will increase by 5000 per level.
